It’s finally here—Spring Commencement! After years of classes, studying, and projects, you’re ready to walk to the podium and do the darn thing. This is such an exciting time for graduates and those who have supported them along the way. It’s also the perfect time to look back at all the memories you’ve made and the special places you’ve visited while living the SLO Life. Celebrate this important milestone by spending A Grad’s Perfect Day with Splash Café exploring the streets of SLO with your besties one last time.
1) Grab Breakfast at Splash Café in SLO
But first, coffee. Get pumped for the day with a steaming cup of joe and a delicious breakfast at Splash Café in Downtown SLO. We’ve got something for everyone, between our breakfast burritos and tacos to French toast and pancakes. Our Munchie Menu also offers six hearty breakfast bowls packed with cheesy tots and a tasty mixture of protein, veggies, and sauces. Some local faves include the Bleu Stang (served with melted bleu cheese) and the Veg Out (a veggie lover’s Kryptonite). If you’re in the mood for something lighter, grab a fresh-baked pastry from our onsite bakery. Whatever you choose, make sure to fill up and fuel up for the day’s events!
2) Grab Some Splash Merch and Hike to the Famous Poly P
After breakfast, stock up on some Splash Café merchandise, like a tank, tee, hat, or sticker for your water bottle. You’ll stay cool and hydrated during your morning hike and have a fun souvenir of your college days! Once you’ve got your new gear, head over to Cal Poly to hike The P. This iconic SLO landmark was created 100-plus years ago as part of a rivalry between Cal Poly and SLO High School. Now it’s a symbol of pride and community spirit, as well as a bucket-list item for countless SLO locals. The trail starts on the south side of campus behind the Visitor’s Kiosk and climbs about a mile up the hill to The P. Make sure to bring your phone to snap some pics of the amazing view!
3) Go Wine Tasting at Tolosa Winery
The Perfect Day wouldn’t be complete without exploring the Central Coast wine country! Head over to the renowned Tolosa Winery for an unforgettable tasting experience. Tolosa offers tasting pours and flights of award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other varietals grown in the special terroir of the SLO Coast AVA. They are currently offering daily seatings at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m., which can be booked in advance online. Make a reservation by calling the tasting room at (805) 782-0500 or online at www.tolosawinery.com
4) Head to Farmers’ Market and Get Tri-Tip From Old San Luis BBQ
Nothing says “SLO” like Farmers’ Market and tri-tip. It’s a classic combination that thousands upon thousands of students and visitors have enjoyed over the years. Sate your hunger (and soak up that wine) with a dinner of classic tri-tip, corn bread, and other fan favorites at Old San Luis BBQ. Just try to avoid spilling scrumptious barbecue sauce on your new Splash Café T-shirt!
Enjoy your meal at Old SLO BBQ’s open seating or take your meal to-go for a walk around downtown! Listen to the live music, stop at your favorite stalls for flowers and fresh produce, and pop into the local shops to treat yourself to a graduation gift!
5) End the Day with Ice Cream from McConnell’s
After you’re done with dinner, you’re going to want some dessert! Stop in for a sweet treat at McConnell’s, where your only care in the world is deciding which flavor to get. Sweet Cream Caramel Brownie or Chocolate Covered Strawberries? Cookies & Cream or Sprinkle Cake? Luckily, you can go for multiple scoops or share with friends! If you’re in a hurry to get home to prep for your big day, order online for pickup or local delivery.
